About this Project

Berwick Renewables (Transmission) is a 100 MW National Grid-connected project combining 140 MWp of solar, 100 MW of battery energy storage, and wind generation, targeting a 2031 connection

As a transmission-level project, it connects directly to the National Grid high-voltage network rather than the regional distribution system, enabling it to deliver clean power at scale directly into the national transmission infrastructure. The BESS component has been submitted in Gate 2, and a Grid Supply Point offer has been accepted. Solar and wind will be submitted in subsequent connection rounds. The project has a current grid offer value of £13.3 million for securities, positioning it as a high-value asset in Empower Projects’ growing transmission-connected portfolio.

Planning Status and Milestones

Planning has not yet commenced. The BESS component has been submitted in the Gate 2 connection process, with solar and wind to follow in future rounds. Land option agreements are in place for the BESS land, while HOTs for solar and wind land are under active discussion. The project is in pre-planning development with submission expected after Gate 2 results.

Connection Details

The project connects directly to the National Grid transmission network at the Berwick NG connection point, with 100 MVA export and 100 MVA import capacity. Current grid offer securities are £13.3 million. The connection is classified as a transmission-connected project, with no separate distribution connection cost applicable. The project’s gross asset value for the transmission connection is estimated at £1.5 million.

Site and Surrounding Area

Precise site location is subject to ongoing planning and land assembly. The transmission-connected nature of the project points to a location with direct access to high-voltage National Grid infrastructure. Full geographical and community consultation detail will follow as development progresses toward planning submission.
